Wind Turbine Technician

Description

Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Wind Turbine Technician to join their renewable energy team in Lderitz. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of wind turbine systems. This role requires strong technical abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. The Wind Turbine Technician will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure that our wind energy projects operate efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Installation:
   • Assist in the assembly and installation of wind turbines, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and manufacturer specifications.
   • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to determine project requirements and timelines.
2. Maintenance:
   • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on wind turbines, including mechanical and electrical components.
   • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with turbine performance or equipment malfunctions.
3. Repairs:
   • Perform corrective maintenance tasks to repair or replace faulty components, including gearboxes, generators, and control systems.
   • Document repairs and maintenance activities accurately and thoroughly.
   • Repair electrical, electronic and mechanical systems on a daily basis.
   • Work with Low Voltage and Medium Voltage equipment up to 33kV
   • Perform repairs on electrical or electronic equipment:
     • Fault finding
     • Disassembling/Assembling equipment
     • Soldering
     • Repair Wiring
     • Clean

• Test and identify faults
• Read schematics and diagrams and do repairs from them
• Assist other Technicians with repairs
• Complete documents associated with work done
• Make recommendations for work to be performed
• Travel to site to repair equipment(includes long distance driving)
• Manual Tasks:
  • Heavy lifting
  • Remove/install components
  • Remove/install equipment
  • Move/Lift objects
  • Clean work area
  • Dispose of waste material

4. Safety Compliance:

1. • Adhere to all safety and environmental regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following lockout/tagout procedures.
   • Participate in safety training and actively promote a culture of safety within the team.

5. Technical Support:

• Provide support to other technicians and staff in the field, sharing expertise and knowledge as needed.
• Assist in training new employees or apprentices on wind turbine operations and maintenance.

6. Documentation:

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
• Prepare reports on wind turbine performance and maintenance needs for management.

7. Emergency Response:

• Be available for on-call duties to respond to urgent repair needs or emergencies.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience required:

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in a relevant field is preferred.
• Experience in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance; prior experience with wind turbines is an advantage.
• Valid drivers license is a MUST .
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Working Conditions:

• The position may require working at heights and in remote locations.
• Travel to different sites may be required.
• Overtime may be necessary during peak project times or for emergency repairs.
