Why this Superintendent position exists:

To lead a team of Foremen and Artisans in safely and accurately executing the project managers directives by delegating, supervising and correcting to ensure the highest level of workmanship and quality for satisfying the needs and requirements of our company and clients.



KEY JOB OUTPUTS :


Staff Planning and Supervision

  • Ensure that resources are managed within frame of Project Managers quotes and forecasts to clients and do not exceed budget or timeline.
  • Ensure that foremen understand requirements.
  • Monitor and timeously report any deviation from forecast or budget.
  • Assign, instruct and lead the right people to the right tasks.
  • Ensure that foremen are seeing achieve objectives timeously on a daily basis through effective planning, organising tasks and work teams, and supervision.
  • Issue Annual Performance Agreements to Foremen and conduct interim assessments on theirKey Performance Indicators.
  • Screen the performance of workers and advise foreman about managing performance according to set company standards and procedures.
  • Manage disciplinary action as per company standards and procedures.
  • Provide mentorship to team members on a regular basis with regards to technical skills transfer and working together in a team.
  • Mobilize and demobilize people, equipment and material on job start up and on job completion.
  • Demonstrate good leadership, people utilization.
  • Create an atmosphere of accountability and consistency impacting reliability for producing extraordinary outcomes.
  • Lead teams toward an inspiring future, impacting engagement, spirit and resilience.
  • Foster an environment where employees are free to communicate, impacting creativity and innovation.

Project Estimation and Execution

  • Ensure administration such as timesheets or reports are accurately completed and submitted on time to payroll.
  • Prepare estimates for labour and materials in consultation with Project Manager.
  • Forecast labour hours and duration of jobs.
  • Control labour hours against forecast.
  • Control material usage quantities on jobs.
  • Report any deviation from forecast timeously.
  • Report any client related difficulties to Project Manager.
  • Continuous and consistent reporting of job status and progress.
  • Manage VOs - do not perform work unless prior authorization is received.
  • Conduct job feedback meetings to eliminate repeats of sub-standard performance.

Productivity and Quality

  • Execute jobs within budgeted costs and time allocation.
  • Manage labour utilization efficiently.
  • Determine shift requirements to ensure adequate supervision on projects.
  • Short-time management.
  • Control effective use of materials and tools.
  • Provide technical advice and support to Foremen/Artisans on interpretation of customer requirements.
  • Ensure that employee output is in line with customer requirements.
  • Ensure correct skills are applied to prevent reworks.
  • Ensure jobs are done according to the correct specifications and workmanship.
  • Ensure labour, variations and standby time is correctly recorded.
  • Monitor labour hours against budgets and notify project manager of any potential deviations or actual deviations.
  • Ensure that timekeeping and attendance are recorded accurately.
  • Continuously update project manager about progress.
  • Complete jobs without non-conformances and within agreed deadlines.

Health and Safety

  • Complete 5 Steps safety task observation.
  • Complete risk assessment with your team on site.
  • Ensure safety incidents are correctly reported, investigated and findings implemented.
  • Execute toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Adhere to company and/or client legislative Health, Safety and Environmental standards.
  • Responsible for the overall safety of employees.
  • Apply and encourage good housekeeping practices.

Ad Hoc Duties

  • Provide on the job training and skills development for personnel.
  • Attend to any reasonable request made by the Line Manager that falls within your work scope.
  • Adhere to company quality standards and excellent engineering practices at all times.
  • Perform overtime work when requested.
  • Live the O&L Values and Persona.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12, National Trade Certificate.
  • Minimum 6 years on the job experience in a ship repair/marine environment.
  • Minimum 4 years experience in supervisory capacity.
  • Material knowledge.
  • Computer efficiency in MS Office.

Preferred/Advantageous

  • ISO.
  • Quality Control experience.
  • MS Projects.

Other requirements:

  • Knowledge of Labour Act and OHS regulations.
