PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to ensure the maintenance and repair of all electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems within the processing and utilities departments, including dairy equipment and CIP systems. The role is key in driving process optimization initiatives, aimed at minimizing machinery breakdowns and ensuring the continuous, reliable operation of equipment.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES:

  • National diploma in electrical engineering/ Electrical Trade Certificate.
  • A minimum of 5 years working experience as a Dairy Processing Technician.
  • Proven direct experience of 3-5 years working on Tetrapak equipment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Maintain and repair Utility & Processing equipment cost-effectively

  • Perform correct fault finding on machinery & equipment in case of breakdowns.
  • Perform accurate and correct processing during maintenance on a daily basis.
  • Perform accurate testing of equipment before handover to process owners by completing appropriate checklists.
  • Assist in diagnosing unresolved events leading to ineffective operations and determine the root causes.
  • Organise and implement an action plan and provide feedback on PMS (Plant Maintenance Schedules).
  • Participate successfully in Project or new machine installation planning.
  • Submit daily reports on root cause analyses on breakdowns/equipment to the line manager/ supervisor.
  • Perform accurate repairs/unplanned maintenance on all equipment in the area of responsibility.
  • Provide feedback on PMS (Plant Maintenance Plan) or to relevant parties as required.
  • Ensures proper maintenance and functionality of key processing equipment, including but not limited to the following Homogenizer 15, 20, 25; Separator; Bactofuge; Standardizer; Pasteurizers; VTIS (Vacuum Thermo Instant Sterilizer) Tetra Thermo Aseptic; Tetra Al safe.

General Administration duties

  • Create work orders and reserve parts for repair or unplanned maintenance.
  • Perform department-relevant checks and preventative maintenance according to set maintenance plans.
  • Coordinate and check work orders handed down to department artisans
  • Implement and provide on-the-job coaching to apprentices & artisans
  • Respond swiftly during callouts to provide electrical and mechanical assistance to shift artisans.

Adhere to Health & Safety Requirements in the Engineering Department

  • Execute and monitor correct safety procedures during maintenance.
  • Keep the workplace clean and organised according to the 5S principle.
  • Assure that all areas are clean after repair work or maintenance is done.
  • Maintain cleanliness & tidiness of the workplace.
  • Check that personal hygiene meets the set standards.
  • Maintain quality health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Adhere to ISO procedures.
  • Report all safety incidents to the Technical Utility & Processing Specialist.
