MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To align and provide technical safety support to the mining department and operations by developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs and policies. This role involves conducting risk assessments, ensuring regulatory compliance, performing inspections, and leading specialized safety training tailored to mining activities
Key Performance Areas:
- Provide Safety support to the Mining department from a Technical perspective to ensure optimal efficiencies.
- Ensure that all Technical mining risks are mitigated and ensure that all mining stakeholders understand the risks.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of mining operations, including identifying potential hazards associated with mining operations.
- Analyse accident and incident reports to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.
- Collate leading indicators and present trends to MIN Teams (+Contractors) PTOs, VFLs, JSA, High Risk Teams Inspections.
- Ensure compliance with mining safety regulations and standards (e.g., MSHA, OSHA, local mining laws)
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of mining sites, equipment, and facilities.
- Ensure the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety gear by operational & any other mining personnel & visitors.
- Lead investigations for mining accidents, near-misses, and other safety incidents.
- Educate employees on the safe operation of mining equipment, emergency procedures, and the proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Research best practices, innovations, technology to improve safety.
Requirements and experience:
- Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects.
- Bachelors degree in Mining Engineering, Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in safety engineering or a related role within mining environment.
- Experience in conducting safety Training
- Strong understanding of mining operations and relevant safety regulations.
- Valid Code B/BE Drivers License
