Senior Engineer: Projects (Electrical)

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To complete engineering and construction projects, by planning, organising, controlling all elements of the project, and executing the defined project within time and with budget provisions.
Key Performance Areas:
- Develop project objectives, by reviewing project proposals and plans, and conferring with management.
- Interpret Company Project program requirements, and formulate and implement project plans accordingly.
- Identify project responsibilities, by determining the phases and elements of the project, overseeing and co-coordinating the technical aspects of the project, through project coordination meetings and other forms of communication.
- Maintain project schedule, by monitoring project progress, co-coordinating activities and resolving problems.
- Assign project personnel to specific phases or aspects of the project in accordance with engineering discipline.
- Oversee contractor work activities and ensure compliance with all SU SSHER-Q requirements.
- Manage activities of Owners Engineer, equipment suppliers and Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contractors.
- Allocate project resources appropriately and control project costs, by approving expenditures within budget parameters and administering contractor contracts.
- Provide input into the sections annual operational budget, by forecasting costs and monitor expenditure and cash flow on a regular basis.
- Ensure legal and procedural compliance of projects.
Requirements and experience:
- Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects.
- BSc/ BEng/ BTech / in Electrical Engineering.
- Postgraduate Project Management Certificate will be an added advantage.
- 5 years experience in a projects environment of which 2 years should have been in a senior capacity.
- Proven experience in multi-disciplinary projects and exposure to research and development work into new / improved project.
- Understand risk management processes.
- Sound experience in quality management principles and processes.
- Sound working relationships and should be able to work in a multi- national environment.
- Excellent track record of contract & contractor management, people management and stakeholder engagement.
- Registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia.
- Government Certificate of Competency will be an added advantage.
- Valid Code B/BE Drivers License.
