Our client is seeking a seasoned General Manager to oversee and direct all operations related to our plantation crops and fruit packhouse. The General Manager will be responsible for the strategic leadership, operational efficiency and overall performance of the farm, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for plantation crop management and fruit packhouse operations.
  • Oversee and coordinate all operational aspects of the farm, including crop management, harvesting, packing and quality control.
  • Develop and implement operational plans and budgets, ensuring cost-efficiency and meeting financial targets.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a diverse team, including unskilled labor, lower management and local staff, fostering a culture of growth and professionalism.
  • Ensure compliance with local government regulations and industry standards, effectively navigating bureaucratic processes.
  • Manage relationships with regional and corporate stakeholders, providing updates on operational performance and strategic initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement in farm operations, including implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Represent the company in community and governmental interactions, upholding the companys values and interests.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in managing plantation crops and fruit packhouse operations, preferably within the agricultural sector in Africa.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse teams and foster a culture of training and development.
  • Resourceful and adaptable, capable of problem-solving and decision-making in a dynamic agricultural environment.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural practices, including crop management, irrigation systems and quality control.
  • Familiarity with local government bureaucracy and regulatory environments in Southern Africa.
  • Experience interfacing with regional and corporate management effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Southern African/African agricultural experience, with a deep understanding of local agricultural practices and community dynamics.
  • Knowledge of corporate operations and the ability to manage and align farm activities with corporate strategies.
  • Willingness to reside on the farm premises near Keetsmanhoop, accommodating the remote location and lifestyle.
