Farm Handyman Job Job Details | O&L

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To provide general maintenance and repair services across the farm, ensuring all equipment, structures, and grounds are kept in optimal condition. This includes the operation and maintenance of a TLB (Tractor-Loader-Backhoe) to support various farm activities, as well as maintaining the farms landscape and garden areas.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE :

• Grade 10 certificate
• A valid TLB Operator certification & Drivers License
• Certificate in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field will be an added advantage
• 3 years of experience in gardening and general farm maintenance.
• Experience with operating an excavator/backhoe loader,
• Gardening and irrigation knowledge.
• Knowledge of general maintenance and operation of garden equipment and power tools.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

• Monitor and maintain farm infrastructure, machinery, and non-production areas as instructed, such as checking oil in farm machinery, maintaining fences, and general building maintenance.
• Prepare and maintain crop/forage storage as per instruction, such as monitoring pests, vermin in crop or bulk bins, and temperature monitoring.
• Recognize environmental risks and carry out operations to minimize environmental impact, such as avoiding pollution of soil, air, and watercourses.
• Check and maintain field boundaries, farm infrastructure, machinery, and non-production areas as instructed, such as checking oil in farm machinery, maintaining fences, and general building maintenance.
• Assist the manager in grassland management, maintaning plant health performance, conducting routine tasks and assisting with general record-keeping practices.
• Safely operating and maintaining the TLB for various farm tasks such as digging, trenching, and lifting heavy materials.
• Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of the TLB to ensure optimal performance.
• Adhere to all safety protocols while operating the TLB and other machinery.
• Maintain and clean gardening tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
• Follow all safety protocols to prevent snake bites and ensure the safety of the handler and the public and adhere to regulations concerning health, safety, or other compliance requirements, as well as brand standards and HACCP policies and procedures.
