Job Description
A SAMPLING GEOLOGIST PERFORMS THE FOLLOWING KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Co-ordinates and actively participates in the interpretation/delineation of geometry, structure, lithology, facies, texture, geotechnical characteristics & age relationships of mineralized lithology.
- Conceptualises/reconstructs the environments of deposition of sediments using interpreted data.
- Delineates geological/mineralization zones based on the model and uses it to predict associated mineralization potential.
- Identifies/Co-ordinates and manages the collection of all geo-metallurgical data which impacts on the ability to sample and recover diamonds from the deposit.
- Assists to identify, develops, and manages an inventory of high-quality targets in the sampling plan.
- Acquires geological and geophysical data timeously.
- Co-ordinates and participates in onboard geological monitoring and evaluation as well as post data acquisition analysis.
- Enforces sampling QA/QC standards.
- Develops regular daily, weekly, and monthly detailed exploration sampling and geological reports.
- Compiles detailed geological and sampling data validation (QA/QC) reports as an input into the resource estimation and evaluation process.
- Communicates geological information effectively for optimal business utilisation.
THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES ARE KEY TO THIS POSITION:
- Good working knowledge in geological modelling with emphasis on sedimentology and stratigraphic interpretation skills.
- Demonstrated working knowledge and skills utilizing office applications including MS Office, and MS Access database.
- Working knowledge with spatial relational databases and able to quickly extract and merge datasets from different databases.
- Competency in ArcGIS (ArcMap, ArcGISPro)
- Working knowledge of specific geophysical data interpretation software such as Oasis Montaj/Sequent and Dug Insight and Geosuite) as well as Esri ArcGIS
- Familiarity with the Mineral Resources and Reserve reporting codes
Qualifications
DO YOU MEET THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS?
- BSc Hons Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Geosciences/Earth Sciences (e.g. Geology or Geophysics)
- Candidates with Statistics and/or Mathematics to at least second year university level will be preferred and thus have a strong advantage.
- Complementary qualification in Data Sciences Analysis or Geostatistics will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years experience working as a Geoscientist in an exploration/production or similar environment.
- Experience in Sedimentology will be an added advantage.
