MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To co-ordinate all aspects of Waste Management and removal in an environmentally friendly manner to enable the efficiency of the Mine site.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Prepare, plan and implement safe waste disposal strategiesensuring that all waste disposal activities comply with environmental laws and regulations.
  • Draft, implement and review waste management plans, policies and procedures.
  • Prepare waste audits, publications, reports and tender specifications relating to waste management.
  • Perform site investigation and Audit, and report findings.
  • Monitor final waste disposal in order to ensure compliance with legislation, relevant SOPs and EMP requirements.
  • Supervise the transportation of waste to ensure that it takes place efficiently without contaminating air, land or water sources.
  • Assist with oversee and manage waste management contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with current legislation in the transportation, handling and disposal of waste.
  • Assist and Oversee waste management schemes, such as at landfill sites.
  • Liaise with the relevant legal authorities and local mining industry regarding waste management issues and initiatives.
  • Develop and implement initiatives, strategies and plans to educate SUs staff and business partners on waste minimization, reuse, recycle and proper disposal.
  • Formulate and control the budget for waste disposal.
  • Consolidation of waste record forms & preparation of waste statistics reports.
  • Handle waste management procurement plan and liaise with Procurement Section.

Requirements and experience:

  • Grade 12or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects.
  • B- Tech / Bachelors Degree in Environmental Management or related field.
  • 3 Years experience in Waste Management practices.
  • Sound knowledge in compliance with local legislation in terms of transportation, handling and disposal of waste.
  • Experience in Waste Management or similar.
  • Compliance with the legislation and EMP requirements.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications: Excel, Word, Outlook, PPT, Project.
  • Provide basic training communication, awareness campaigns.
  • Dangerous goods knowledge.
  • SAP MM software knowledge
  • Experience in contract management.
  • Code B or BE Drivers License.
