MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide technical assistance in the operations of the Laboratory by accurately and precisely carrying out all production related analysis and test work, within the required time specifications in a safe and efficient manner.
Key Performance Areas:
- Receive and prepare samples.
- Analyse samples as per Standard Operating Procedure.
- Calibrate all instruments before analyzing samples and troubleshoot complex calibration issues.
- Communicate equipment problems and accuracy of sample results, take corrective actions and troubleshoot complex situations.
- Standardize make up reagents/ solution before starting with analyses.
- Insert QA/QC samples on batch created for XRF, ICP and Reagent titrations.
- Clean milling bowls/ pots with cleaning material to avoid cross contamination
- Rinse pipette with demin water after each sample solution.
- Calculate and determine amount of chemicals required for reagent make-up.
- Prepare the necessary dilutions/ molarity adjustment and\or chemicals as required for standardizations.
- Carry out basic repair and routine maintenance for laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Lock out, positively isolate equipment and attend to routine maintenance and basic repair on laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Inspect and check all apparatus/ instrument before use and report all malfunctions and faulty to line immediately.
- Ensure that all solution dispersers are dosing correctly using density calculations.
- Replace gas bottle for instruments, ensure that sufficient gas cylinders are in place and empty bottles are returned.
- Dismantle and clean burette of automatic titrator to prevent leakages of titrant that can damage to auto burette and inaccurate results.
- Dismantle torch, nebulizer of ICP machine and clean regularly.
Requirements and experience:
- Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects.
- 1 year working experience in a mining/ chemical / metallurgical laboratory environment.
- Experience in basic repair and routine maintenance of sample preparation equipment and instruments and analytical instruments.
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices(GLP), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) files.
- Knowledge of Basic chemistry and analytical instrument principles and calculations.
- Knowledge of the safe use and storage of chemicals and reagents.
- Knowledge of LIMS operation.
- Code B or BE Drivers License.
