Technician: Grade Control

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To optimise grade control activities to achieve production targets, to collect geological data, update databases and coordinate sampling activities, ore loading and drilling.
Key Performance Areas:
- Gather and manage mine ore samples as the basis for production grade calculations and reconciliation of grade estimates with grade of ore produced.
- Maintain accurate records on mined ore grade and other materials sampled and analyzed.
- Carry out Grade Control Sampling at various blasthole piles, in order to ensure that material is delineated into various categories on time.
- Maintain the Radiometric Truck Scanner and support Production Geologist in collection, analysis and reporting of truck scanner data.
- Conduct geological sample preparation, QAQC of laboratory data and track sample analysis progress.
- Improve grade control with accurate elemental composition analysis in the field, by managing the grade control of the ore zones in production in the open pit.
- Process geological information for grade control purposes, in order to ensure accurate elemental composition analysis in the field.
- Use uranium ore detection tools for the purpose of grade control on the mine and to improve better control of production.
- Store all information regarding drill holes, solids, blocks and report in an accessible centralized grade control database.
- Perform risk assessments in the MRM section as and when necessary.
- Perform preventative maintenance, modify, install and maintain spectrometer equipment in compliance with appropriate standards and best practices.
- Remove defective instruments from the system, decontaminate, disassemble and clean.
Requirements and experience:
- Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects.
- 3 years experience in a Geological environment.
- Diploma in Geology will be an added advantage.
- Good understanding on how equipment functions (Radar & Truck Scanner.)
- Understanding of grade distribution.
- Knowledge of grade control techniques.
- Understanding of open pit mining operations.
- Geological drilling, exploration geology, sampling and ore evaluation methods.
- Code B or BE Drivers License.
