The Human Resource General Manager will lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) Division including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • Aligning the Groups strategic objectives to the HR strategic plan.
  • Champion change and innovation.
  • Oversee the talent acquisition strategies and management thereof.
  • Oversee discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Optimize the human resources of the company and manage the associated risks.

Duties/Responsibilities :

  • Develop the human resources strategic plan and oversee the implementation and review.
  • Partner with the senior leadership team and corporate head office to understand and execute the organizations human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting retention, and succession planning.
  • Provides support and guidance to Exco, HR generalists, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Manage and oversee all negotiations with the unions.
  • Trace, develop, implement and maintain internal and external communication to enhance the companys reputation.
  • Oversee the Corporate Social Responsibility function of the Group.
  • Analyze trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Manage the learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities :

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS (Compass) and talent management system (Abaco).
  • Good negotiation skills.

Requirements

Qualifications / Experience :

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources or equivalent.
  • A Masters Degree will serve as an advantage.
  • Seven (7) years appropriate work experience in a relevant position with three years management experience.
  • Strong background in Human Resources administration.
  • Knowledge and experience in HR policy formulation.
  • Basic acumen of a unionized environment.
  • Through knowledge of the HR legislative framework (Labour Act, AA Act, ECF & WCA, SSC Act, NTA, Income Tax Act).
  • Experience in the fishing industry would be an advantage.
