PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department within the Strand Hotel Swakopmund, manage financial budgets for both the hotel and the restaurants and provide financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring compliance with tax laws as well as the hotels standard operating procedures (SOPs) as well as communicating financial status to the General Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE :

  • Bachelor's Degree or Post-graduate degree in accounting
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of financial management experience in the hospitality industry.
  • Ability to report analytically on management accounts.
  • Strong on budget preparation and budgetary control
  • Knowledge of Namibian Tax Legislation and IFRS
  • Additional Hotel accounting-specific courses e.g. Cost accounting
  • Professional qualification-CA/ACCA/CIMA
  • Knowledge of MICROS, OPERA and SAP will be an added advantage.
  • Strong leadership skills

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  • Maintain the highest standards and integrity of monthly P&L statements, including precise expense capture processing and provision management.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets, manage risk, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize existing procedures, maintaining relevance and adherence to industry best practices.
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to enhance working capital management, optimizing PM accounts, procurement processes, stockholding, and cash/banking operations.
  • Meticulously manage overheads by implementing proactive cost-saving measures and identifying areas for optimization.
  • Spearhead comprehensive financial forecasting models encompassing revenue, expenses, and profitability analysis, integrating multiple scenarios for informed decision-making.
  • Champion and monitor key business efficiency indicators, providing strategic guidance to improve operational performance.
  • Conduct regular and comprehensive assessments of departmental costs, identifying areas for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Oversee the food and beverage value chain, conducting detailed reviews at regular intervals to optimize costs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Preparing and reviewing annual budgets and monthly profit and loss (P&L) statements.
  • Implementing accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assisting with cost control and revenue enhancement efforts.
  • Collaborating with other departments on financial matters.
