The Fieldwork Coordinator for the PRI Pilot Site plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of fieldwork activities, with a primary focus on bush harvesting, biochar production, and testing sustainable farming inputs, particularly biostimulants from seaweed. The incumbent will coordinate research efforts across various ecological regions, collaborating closely with stakeholders and researchers to ensure project objectives are met. The ideal candidate will be a driven individual interested in pursuing a PhD in agriculture, engineering, or related fields at either UNAM or NUST. Key Responsibilities: Project Planning:

  • Contribute to the development of detailed project plans, including task delineation, timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Collaborate with researchers and stakeholders to understand project objectives and expectations.

Site Identification and Preparation:

  • Conduct baseline studies at pilot sites.
  • Oversee site preparation, including bush-related activities, infrastructure setup, and modifications.

Resource Management:

  • Procure and manage necessary resources, such as equipment, materials, and personnel.
  • Liaise with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of required inputs.

Fieldwork Execution:

  • Recruit, manage, and supervise field teams.
  • Implement experimental designs and data collection protocols.

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Establish data collection procedures and ensure comprehensive recording.
  • Collaborate with researchers to analyze collected data.

Project Communication:

  • Provide regular updates to researchers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Address stakeholder concerns and implement necessary adjustments.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Develop and enforce safety protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of field activities and data.
  • Prepare progress reports for stakeholders and funding agencies.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage project budget, tracking expenses.
  • Seek cost-saving opportunities without compromising research quality.

Problem Resolution:

  • Identify and address challenges promptly.
  • Collaborate with the team to find solutions.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Evaluate program success and recommend improvements.
  • Stay abreast of agricultural research advancements.

Team Collaboration:

  • Foster a positive work environment.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in agriculture, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience in Namibian encroacher bush control and charcoal/biochar industry.
  • Experience in field team management.
  • Valid drivers license with at least 5 years of experience.

Beneficial Qualifications and Experience:

  • Masters degree in relevant fields.
  • Experience in environmental research project implementation and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping and data interpretation.
  • Experience in biochar production, application, and charging.
  • Familiarity with carbon and/or biodiversity credits.
