Why this position exists:
To estimate and drive a full scope of estimations across marine divisions by ensuring that estimates and quotations are produced timeously and professionally for marine engineering projects.
KEY JOB OUTPUTS:
Analyse and assess drawings, specifications, work scope and site requirements to prepare estimates for projects
- Interpret technical drawings.
- Interpret customer requirements and specifications.
- Assist customer in producing contract terms and specifications.
- Confer with clients on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Consult with clients to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Evaluate all tender documents prior to submission and/or approval.
- Prepare estimates used by management to plan, organize and schedule resources.
- Produce detailed planning input for contracts.
- Analyze and report on contract terms and conditions.
- Negotiate regularly with customers to ensure optimally achieving business and customers objectives throughout every project.
- Produce formal quotations to customer.
- Ensure all specifications and contract revisions are clearly recorded and passed on to the customer.
- Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
- Coordinate up to date reports of job costing.
- Liaise with PM's, customers and agents.
- Ensure secured contracts at suitable profitable margins.
- Analyze risks in terms of penalties, indemnities, guarantees etc.
- Enforce strict document control.
- Manage, communicate and record VO's.
- Sales tracker management and sales/commercial analysis.
- Ensure awarded projects are handed over to operations in full detail.
- Build long term relationships with customer and agents through optimal liaison.
- Know and understand delegation of authority and comply accordingly.
- Ensure adequate recordable communication with clients so as to prevent disputes.
- Drive business development by building and maintaining client relationships.
Ad hoc
- Always adhere to company quality standards and excellent engineering practices.
- Live the O&L Values and Persona.
- Adhere to company and legislative Health, Safety and Environmental standards.
- Attend to any reasonable request made by the Line Manager.
- Adhere to policies and procedures.
- Perform overtime work on request.
Minimum requirements:
- Commercial, Technical or Quantity Surveyor Diploma.
- Minimum with 5 years estimation experience of which 3 years in a Supervisory capacity.
- Interpret technical drawings.
- Advanced MS Excel & Projects.
Advantageous:
- Project Management Diploma.
- Qualified Boilermaker with 5 years experience in the trade.
- Auto CAD.
