PURPOSE OF POSITION
To provide overall supervision and assistance to the Farm Manager with regards to the day-to-day supervision of farm operations on Otavifontein by managing the plant programs, daily farming activities, adequate allocation of staff, input cost and resources management as well as efficient equipment application on the seedling and net house.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES:
- BSC Crop Science/Agriculture or Agronomy.
- At least 3 years practical experience in an agriculture farming environment including supervision of people.
KEY ACOUNTABILITIES:
- Support the Farm Manager with farm control functions with the focus on agronomy management, seed, fertilizer, weeds and pest management, soil management, water management, project management.
- Supervise the net house(s) plant program, operations and harvesting under the leadership of the Farm manager.
- Supervise the seedling house production program inline within the farms demand for seedlings forecast.
- Assist the Farm Manager with soil preparation, water and fertilizing/chemical applications in accordance with the plant programs in the net house.
- Assist the Farm Manager with the technical interpretation of fertilizing program as provided by growing experts in the net house.
- Assist the Farm Manager with the different crop research refence to growing plans, plant viruses, application of poison; etc within the net house.
- Assist the Farm Manger and administrator with month end/year end stock takes.
- Assist with project management initiatives as directed by the Farm Manager.
- Assist with maintaining and improving current seeds and fertilizer usage on the farm which includes soil preparations, seed management, planting and harvesting of all planted crops.
- Assist with building up soil fertility through crop and water management to meet crop harvesting targets.
- Advise on water levels management.
- Adhere to good practices at all times to ensure optimum effectiveness and efficiencies, in line with policies and procedures.
- Assist farm manager with relevant report as and when required.
- Oversee the functions and work delivery of all reporting staff assigned to him/her.
