PURPOSE OF POSITION
To provide overall supervision and assistance to the Farm Manager with regards to the day-to-day supervision of horticulture operations on Otavifontein by managing the plant programs, daily farming activities, adequate allocation of staff, input cost and resources management as well as efficient equipment application on the fields.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES:
- BSC Crop Science/Agriculture or Agronomy.
- At least 5 years practical experience in an agriculture farming environment including supervision of people.
- Experience with variety of vegetables and exceptional leadership skills would be advantageous.
KEY ACOUNTABILITIES:
- Responsible for executing all planting programs as approved by the Company and directed by the Farm Manager.
- Responsible for effective application of the raw material input programs to achieve the agreed to and budgeted standard units harvested for each planting program.
- Implement best practices within the prevailing weather conditions to maximum standard units harvested and outputs.
- Provide input into the annual agronomy budget and make recommendation for replacements, improvements, specifically for vegetables.
- Continuously improving the agronomy department by coming up with new innovations/vegetables to plant on the farm.
- Supervise the horticulture plant program, operations and harvesting under the leadership of the Farm manager.
- Supervise soil preparation, water and fertilizing/chemical applications in accordance with the plant programs as instructed by the Farm Manager.
- Coordinate soil and water analyses as required on the farm.
- Assist with maintaining and improving current seeds and fertilizer usage on the farm which includes soil preparations, seed management, planting and harvesting of all planted fresh produce.
- Coordinates the overall management, safe keeping and controlling of all raw materials for the planting programs.
- Provide Line Manager with monthly departmental performance reports on key focus areas and progress thereof.
- Supervise and lead the planting, harvesting, weeding and production teams to execute their work productively and efficiently according to expected quality and health and safety standards.
