Senior Engineer: Civil

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To be the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) that is accountable for the integrity of the Tailings Storage Facility. To plan and manage the design, construction, operation and monitoring of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF).

Key Performance Areas:

• Arranging the development of Tailings Management Plan.
• Arranging independent design and operational reviews.
• Perform risk assessment and addresses deviation and stability issues.
• Review and update the Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) manual.
• Arranging collections, evaluation and reporting of monitoring data as per Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) manual.
• Plan resources to meet weekly deposition requirements.
• Maintain records related to design, construction and OMS.
• Complete dam safety inspections.
• Oversee contractor work activities and ensure compliance with all SU SSHERQ requirements.
• Review bids from contractors and determine project responsibilities, by identifying project phases and elements, assigning personnel to phases and elements of the project.
• Control project costs, by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts.
• Prepare the sections annual operational budget, by forecasting costs and monitor expenditure and cash flow on a regular basis.
• Prepare project status reports, by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends and recommending actions.
• Ensure effective enforcement and implementation of legal and procedural compliance.
• Maintain project integrity and reputation through compliance with Company and
• Government regulations.

Requirements and experience:

• Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects.
• BSc/ BEng/ BTech / in Civil / Structural Engineering
• 5 years post qualification working experience in a Mining environment / Mining Processing environment of which two years should have been in a managerial capacity.
• Experience in the building, roads construction industry, tailings dam management as well as project management will be an added advantage.
• Strong understanding of soil structural characteristics and methods of testing compaction and consolidation.
• Experience with Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) design, construction, and monitoring.
• Experience with slope stability and seepage management.
• Excellent track record of contract & contractor management and stakeholder engagement.
• Valid Code B/BE Drivers License
