PURPOSE OF POSITION
The position requires a highly motivated and experienced Agribusiness Manager with a specialization in agronomy to lead and manage our farming operations. The Manager Agri-Business will be responsible for overseeing a workforce of approximately 50-100 employees and ensuring the efficient and sustainable execution of all farming activities. This role requires a deep understanding of agronomy principles, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to optimize agricultural processes for maximum productivity and profitability.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES:
- Post Graduate Degree in Agriculture specialized in Agronomy and Crop Science
- At least 8 years working experience in Agronomy or a minimum of 8 years experience working in the same/similar position within the Horticulture Industry with a proven track record of managing agricultural operations.
KEY ACOUNTABILITIES:
- Develop and implement comprehensive agronomy strategies aligned with the company's goals, considering market trends, sustainability, and innovation.
- Support, implement and manage the farm strategy in line with operational and long-term strategic goals and objectives.
- Direct and coordinate all farming activities, including planting, irrigation, pest control, harvesting, and post-harvest processing, to ensure optimal efficiency and quality.
- Develop and maintain a record keeping system consisting of data compiled on soil and field attributes, yield data and field boundaries.
- Implements schedules for soil preparation, planting, watering, fertilizing, weed and pest control and harvesting.
- Weekly and monthly reporting of planting, growth and harvesting.
- Responsible for the operational management and continuous improvement of the seeds and fertilizers in line with set budgets and set quality standards.
- Responsible for the operational management and continuous improvement of the soil in line with set operational and budget, including day-to-day communication with Namwater and Ministry (MAWF) on all water related issues, as well as daily water management to ensure cost and yield control.
- Complete responsible on the financial management of the department in line with OLF procedures and policies including annual budget preparation, monthly cost centre controls, SAP approvals and releases and capex requirement, decision paper preparation, gain approval and implement projects.
- Efficiently allocate resources such as manpower, equipment, and budget to achieve production targets and maintain cost-effectiveness.
