Purpose of Position

The incumbent is responsible to supervise and coordinate all non-milk-related farm activities, emphasizing effective processes while prioritizing the optimal health, care, and management of calves. The role further aims to streamline operations, lead the dairy team, and maintain overall efficiency in farm processes.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma /Degree in Agriculture/Animal Science / Health/Production
  • Minimum of 3 years direct experience working on a dairy farm or similar environment
  • Code B Drivers License.

Key accountabilities:

  • Draw up and implement a cleaning program for the calf house to maintain good hygiene and conducive work environment for calf rearing.
  • Responsible for all arrangements regarding the taking of blood samples and supervise the process to ensure that procedures are followed.
  • Check that all standard operating procedures regarding milk provision and treatment of calves/ heifers are adhered to.
  • Observe heifers for early and accurate detection of coming on heat signs and verify against the insemination list to determine which cows to inseminate.
  • Daily observation and identification of sick calves and treating according to set protocols.
  • Inspect and report on the condition of cow, heifer and calf houses regarding shading, availability of feed and water, structures, feeding lanes, manure lanes, manure pits and bedding in order to ensure herd comfort at all times.

  • Train and coach calf house team on vaccination and treatment protocols and ensure consistent and clear record keeping.
  • Verify stock received against delivery notes, record in the stock receipt register and report differences to the Herd Administrator.
  • Capture data and report on Afikim in the absence of the Herd Administrator.
  • Supervise and direct subordinates according to work processes on a daily basis.
  • Adhere and ensure adherence to the care and maintenance procedures and services schedules through random inspection of check lists for all equipment.
  • Ensure that good housekeeping practices are adhered to in line with environmental and occupational health policy and guidelines through regular inspections.
  • Liaise with farm vet daily regarding herd health issues.
  • Ensure up to date registration of all newborns on NAMLITS system and timely capturing of permits when selling calves.
