Description
An Onshore Crane Operator/Equipment Operator in the oil and gas industry is responsible for safely and efficiently operating various types of cranes and heavy equipment at onshore locations. They play a critical role in ensuring the proper handling of heavy materials and equipment, adhering to safety regulations and industry standards for onshore operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Operation:
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including cranes, bulldozers, forklifts, and loaders, to lift, move, and position materials and equipment as required.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working condition and report any defects or issues.
Crane Operation:
- Safely operate cranes of different types, such as mobile, crawler, or tower cranes, following established procedures and load charts.
- Rig loads for lifting, ensure proper balance, and execute lifts with precision.
Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to strict safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations in all operations to prevent accidents and ensure a safe work environment.
- Conduct safety checks and risk assessments before starting equipment or crane operations.
Load Handling:
- Handle and position heavy materials, machinery, and equipment in a precise and controlled manner.
- Use appropriate rigging techniques and attachments to secure loads safely.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of equipment and crane operations, including load weights, equipment used, and safety checks.
- Report any incidents, near-miss events, or equipment malfunctions promptly to supervisors.
Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment and cranes to ensure they operate efficiently.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for any necessary repairs or servicing.
Communication:
- Maintain clear and effective communication with team members, signal persons, and supervisors during lifting and equipment operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training in heavy equipment operation and crane operation.
- Valid certifications for crane operation and heavy equipment operation.
- Prior experience in operating cranes and heavy equipment in the oil and gas industry.
- Proficiency in understanding and following safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Certification in defensive driving to ensure safe transportation of equipment and materials.
- Strong knowledge and skills in logistics operations to effectively manage material handling and equipment movement.
- Expertise in lifting and rigging techniques to safely control loads and equipment during operations.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform tasks in various weather conditions and demanding environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
