In-Country Financial Controller

Description

Our client is engaged in rare earth mineral exploration activities in Namibia. The company is also involved in gold exploration and the generation of resource properties in southern Africa. As the Financial Controller, this individual will have a direct reporting line to the in-country CEO and the corporate finance team in Canada.

The main responsibilities of the Financial Controller will include:

  1. Handling daily accounting tasks such as accounts payable and receivable, cash management, and maintenance of the general ledger.
  2. Managing the corporate payroll administration.
  3. Preparing various monthly accruals and journal entries.
  4. Assisting in the timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting packages as required.
  5. Working with detailed spreadsheets for account reconciliations.
  6. Preparing audit working papers and ensuring compliance with local audit requirements, as well as providing assistance for regulatory audits in Canada.
  7. Establishing and implementing internal controls and procedures.
  8. Assisting with cash flow forecasting and budgeting.
  9. Supporting government permitting applications and ongoing reporting obligations for exploration properties.
  10. Meeting in-country reporting requirements and providing assistance with public company filings in Canada as needed.
  11. Assisting management with other resource exploration projects.
  12. Fulfilling regulatory filing obligations within Namibia for corporate tax reporting and VAT.
  13. Providing support with other administrative responsibilities to aid the exploration teams.

Requirements

  • Proven substantial accounting experience is a must.
  • Preferably possess a professional accounting designation and a solid understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and advanced Excel skills would be advantageous.
  • Exposure to public company reporting is beneficial but not required.
  • Must have a proven strong background in the business and financial landscape of Namibia.
