MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Co-ordinate, maintain and provide support for all radiometric instruments and geotechnical electronic equipment in terms of troubleshooting, diagnostic, assembly and repairs to ensure availability at all time.

Key Performance Areas:
- Perform inspections, maintenance, diagnosis, fault finding, repairs and installation of equipment in area of responsibility.
- Monitor, benchmark and evaluate technology in order to ensure continuous improvements.
- Maintain probing and geotechnical equipment within the mining areas.
- Identify, plan and execute projects in line with departmental accepted project management principles to enhance, improve and optimise operations.
- Trace out and test circuits and components to locate defective parts in radiation monitoring system using test equipment, schematics and maintenance manual.
- Monitor, install, service and recondition probing, radioactive equipment, geotechnical instruments and control systems, taking cognisance of Health & Safety, Environmental, Technical and legal requirements.
- Perform operational checks, monitor performance and related maintenance to identify and diagnose equipment and electronic performance problems.
- Calibrate readings on probing and radioactive equipment according to standards, adjust phasing and align stages to ensure accuracy of recording and indicating function.
- Remove defective instruments from the system, decontaminate, disassemble, clean and replace defective parts, using standardized tools.
- Decommission and depose equipment as appropriate.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled tasks as required.
- Check equipment availability, to achieve optimal efficiencies on associated defined equipment and systems, and ensure availability of critical spares for all operations equipment.
- Maintain Truck scanner and slope monitoring equipment availability and ensure critical parts are monitored and maintained.
- Maintain all required documentation, e.g. circuit diagrams, sequence tables, logic diagrams, making use of the appropriate software.
- Maintain a software backup of the control system and all relevant equipment requiring software downloads in the event of failure.
- Maintain the spares parts by ordering the spares in advance, keeping them in the/a proper place and replacing them according to the maintenance plan.
- Carry out defined and necessary checks on all listed equipment.
- Design and fabricate remote control units for probing and radiometric equipment.
- Use relevant testing devices to inspect and diagnose probing and radiometric equipment.
- Perform risk assessments of the radiometric and geotechnical equipment used in the as and when necessary.
- Consult manufacturers manual to determine tests and maintenance procedures.
- Consult with and advise probing operational staff to follow the laid down probing equipment operating standard procedures.
- Maintain register of all faults reported and identified and the associated maintenance work conducted.
- Maintain a current register of all equipment and tools under the care of the section.
Requirements
Requirements and experience:
- National Trade Certificate / N3 in Instrumentation and Control.
- 3 years post trade experience in the control and instrumentation environment.
- Experience in the mining environment will be an added advantage.
- Troubleshooting and diagnostic experience.
- Valid Code B/BE Drivers License.
