LOCATION: WALVIS BAY
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To manage navigation, housekeeping and catching, and ensure that all maritime safety regulations are adhered to, in line with the business objectives and legislative compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- A Deck Officer Class 5 or Mate 1 certificate of competency with valid advanced safety and GMDSS certificates.
- Minimum of 3 years Skipper experience on trawlers.
- Experience of at least one year on wet fish trawlers will be a definite advantage.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Manage safety of all crew on the vessels
- Responsible for watch-keeping and navigation of the vessel.
- Make recommendations for improvement of vesseland equipment efficiency.
- Ensure that OPTO or other system monitoring tools are checked, and all out-of-line parameters are reported to Fleet Management.
- Provide overall leadership, direction and guidance to personnel. Overall responsible for discipline of crew.
- Share information originating from shore withall on-board.
- Ensure that navigation and other safety laws are complied to.
- Implement and execute company safety, health, and environmental programs.
