Job Description
Supervise Operational Shifts at a Station including duties and responsibilities that include maintaining and readiness for emergency call responses when dispatched and taking proper action; educating staff and public on fire safety / prevention; and performing other tasks in accordance with the Local Authorities Fire Brigade Services Act no 5, 2006.
Key Performance Areas
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Respond to and deal with fire operations.
- Respond to and deal with ambulance operations.
- Respond to and deal with rescue operations.
- Respond to and deal with hazardous material operations.
- Respond to and deal with special service operations.
- Responsible for control room duties.
- Administration / training development support function within the division.
- Partake in community fire and life safety education programs.
Skills, Experience & Education
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
Grade 12 (Passed 20 point / 5 subjects with an E symbol in the English language) Plus Fire Fighter I Certificate.
REQUIRED SPECIALISATION:
Fire, rescue and Emergency medical response.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
A minimum period of one (1) year job related experience.
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Code C1 or C or C1E or CE drivers License with Professional Authorization, Valid Registration as ECP Basic with the Allied Health Profession Council of Namibia.
PRE-APPOINTMENT TRAINING AS AN ADDED ADVANTAGE:
Control Room Operator, Pump operator, Ventilation, Rescue and Extrication, Breathing apparatus.
KNOWLEDGE:
Fire behaviour, building construction, hazardous materials identification, organisational, departmental and divisional standard operating procedures, rescue principles and the city's emergency operations plan, street map layout, Fire Brigade Service Act.
SKILLS:
Skills in performing search and rescue, forcible entry, ventilation, hazardous material awareness, salvaging, overhaul and support functions at fire fighting incidents. Must have sound interpersonal and good communication.
