Erongo Marine Enterprises (PTY) LTD (EME) is a proudly Namibian registered fishing company, based in Walvis Bay, and operates in the Horse Mackerel fishery. EME has an exemplary record in respect of its fishing operations as well as its focus on socio-economic investment and development, both regionally and nationally.


Erongo Marine Enterprises is currently looking for a qualified and experienced Fourth (4th) Engineer. The Fourth (4th) Engineer will be responsible for in maintaining a safe and effective engine watch and take part in maintenance and repairs on-board as designated by the Chief Engineer. The incumbent will render support to the Chief, 2nd and 3rd Engineers enabling them to focus on all Engine activities on board the vessel. Must be an excellent organizer and communicator with a proactive and collaborative attitude. The incumbent must have the ability and flexibility to work in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.


Minimum Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Engineering Officer Class 5 (DMA approved)
  • 2-3 years sea going experience as an officer in charge of a navigational watch on a fishing vessel
  • Advanced Safety Certificates as required by the DMA
  • Computer Literate - MS Office Suite (Word, Excel & Outlook)
  • Experience on a Horse Mackerel midwater trawler advantageous

Main areas of responsibility

  • Engine watch: To keep engine watch as designated by the Chief Engineer.
  • General duties of Fourth Engineer: Assist with all vessel maintenance of the auxiliary & mechanical machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Crew administration: Assist with all ship administrative duties including engineering department duties.

Required Knowledge and Competencies

  • MS Office proficient
  • Sound command of English (written & oral)
  • Good organizing, coordination, planning and management skills
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, adaptable and conscientious
  • Maturity to handle a range of situations
  • Assertive & firm leadership style
  • Knowledge of the Namibian fishing industry
  • Knowledge of the Namibian fishing and shipping acts and regulations
  • Able to work in fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of HACCP
