MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:


Manage the Central maintenance workshops in order to support maintenance activities to avoid production delays. Coordinate work activities of the Fitting, Boilermaking and Hydraulics sections and ensure maintenance plans are adhered to and ensure compliance with SSHER-Q standards, rules and regulations.


Specification

Key Performance Areas:

  • Coordinate and direct the installation, repair and maintenance of machinery, pipe work systems, and activities on the mine.
  • Ensure conformity to specifications of jobs.
  • Enforce adherence to industry safety and manufacturing standards.
  • Provide technical advice and/or jointly involve subordinates in exploring solutions to work problems when they arise and resolves work issues within the shortest possible time.
  • Review production processes and procedures continuously to ensure that all work conforms to the approved specification in order to be able to provide any technical support detail as and when required by the specialist contractors on site.
  • Adopt latest work methods to be in line with technology changes to enhance production capability and quality output.
  • Receive workshop related work orders from Operations units and planning teams.
  • Discuss with initiators for priority, determine the extent of work and provide technical advice to various specialized trade artisans.
  • Assign work with appropriate instructions to subordinates personnel, arrange and ensure inspections and certifications are done as per standard procedures.
  • Ensure all workshop related work orders are entered with resources utilized detail and are completed on the system.
  • Direct repair/refurbishment of equipment, machinery and valve parts for using a variety of machinery equipment including lathes, milling, boring, drilling, lapping and balancing machines and a wide range of precision measuring instruments to achieve acceptable standards for workmanship.
  • Control the workshop fabrication of special tools and spare parts that are not available.
  • Allocate work, check tolerances, accept completed work and pass to the requesting department.
  • Inspect completed work for conformity to trade standards, operational requirements and safety standards.
  • Co-operate with other maintenance and production personnel over multi-discipline work and the installation and testing of fabricated parts.
  • Direct the maintenance, repair and routine modification of various items of Plant and workshop equipment, including lubrication, general preventive maintenance and specific repair of faulty equipment and machinery.
  • Evaluate equipment and machinery used in the workshop, suggest alternatives or additional machinery or tools and provides cost estimates as part of recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed requirements for materials, labour and support services, review and evaluate bid submissions where contractors are involved and provide overall supervision of related work activities.
  • Follow up on the receipt, storage and consumption of various consumable supplies in the workshop.
  • Inspect items to be purchased prior to acceptance of tender and carry out technical evaluation of materials ordered and received.
  • Assist management in the preparation of capital and operating budget for the section by identifying specific items to be included in the budget.
  • Prepare budget for area of responsibility and monitor expenditure to keep funds within approved budget.

Requirements

Requirements and experience:

  • BSc/BEng or B. Tech in Mechanical and / or Electrical Engineering.
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
  • 8 years experience of which 3 years should have been in a supervisory role in a maintenance environment.
  • Experience in project management, budget preparation and execution.
  • Experience in managing Contractors deliverables.
  • Valid Code B/BE Drivers License.
