Introduction

The Earthmoving Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintenance and repairs on earth moving machinery, mobile equipment, support equipment and infrastructure to ensure equipment availability for production requirements. Scope of work area: Mining, Loading, Auxiliary, Heavy Duty, Rebuilds, Workshops, Workshop Yards, Salvage yard.

Job description

Preventative and scheduled maintenance

  • Perform routine and specialised repair and maintenance work
  • Complete pre-use checklist before operating any mobile equipment
  • Report defects detected from inspections and create work requests
  • Plan and communicate maintenance actions and status to the foreman
  • Provide speedy responses to breakdowns
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion and submission of daily job cards
  • Provide accurate service information for completion of maintenance records
  • Perform component change outs and major interventions
  • Compile accurate spare part lists, monitor spare part stock and identify parts required for ordering of spares to repair defects
  • Complete duties as may be delegated by the relevant foreman

Perform Fault finding and Repairs

  • Recover, troubleshoot and repair broken down earthmoving equipment from the open pit or in the field in the shortest possible time
  • Communicate machine readiness to the pit control as soon as repairs are completed
  • Test drive all machines as appropriate
  • Identify ways to improve work

Housekeeping and general admin duties

  • Ensure personal tools are available, in good condition and adequate in quantity and categories
  • Ensure all special tools and equipment used during the shift are cleaned and returned to the tool store by the end of the shift
  • Ensure delegated safety and housekeeping tasks are completed and associated work orders are signed off and returned to the supervisor for planning purposes
  • Ensure work orders or job cards are completed and returned to the planning office daily
  • Ensure the necessary oil sample slips are correctly completed and returned the same day as the service was completed
  • Ensure component change out slips are correctly completed and returned to the planning department as soon as the job is completed
  • Ensure adequate delegation of work according to the competencies and skills of the assisting team

Risk and safety awareness

  • Promote safety awareness in allocation of all tasks
  • Use Safe Work Procedures for executing work
  • Complete risk assessments on all day-to-day maintenance activities and help to complete the tasks safely and effectively
  • Ensure Tag out/Lockout procedure is applied
  • Identify and communicate possible hazards and risks

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Ensure compliance to all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Actively participate in safety and/or toolbox meetings, and conduct a monthly safety inspection of work area
  • Maintain a safe working environment, and keep the assigned work area clean and tidy
  • Report all unsafe acts and conditions as well as injuries, accidents, equipment damage and near miss incidents to the supervisor in a timely manner

Minimum requirements

  • Namibian Citizen
  • Minimum Grade 12 / N3 with 4 relevant technical subjects & Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate / Earthmoving Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate
  • Minimum 3 years extensive experience working on earthmoving equipment
  • Experience in an Open Cast Mining Environment
  • Valid Code BE drivers license
  • Code CE / CE drivers license will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge and experience of CAT Service Information System (SIS) and CAT Electronic Technician (ET) diagnostic software shall be highly advantageous
  • Work overtime, shifts and standby duties
