Laboratory Technician: Metallurgical Engineering

The University of Namibia is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the vacant Laboratory Technician position, Department of Mechanical and Metallurgical Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, Engineering and Natural Sciences, School of Engineering and the Built Environment, JEDS Campus.

Specification

• Provide technical support for operation and maintenance of Metallurgical Engineering laboratories, supervise undergraduate students when working in laboratories, setup laboratory experiments and guide undergraduate students in practicals for all Metallurgical Engineering courses, maintain a clean and safe working environment in laboratories. Assist postgraduate students with laboratory related aspect of their study. Inspect, maintain, service and repair all equipment, machinery, tools, and materials where appropriate and perform any other duties as may be required.

Requirements

• Possession of a National Diploma in Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy or equivalent from a recognized institution, with at least 3 (three) years practical experience in a Metallurgical Engineering based environment. Good communication skills, inventory management (consumables and equipment) and knowledge of operation and maintenance of Metallurgical Engineering laboratory equipment.
