Introduction

To assist and provide support in the successful execution of the underground development project as well as site dewatering reticulation planning by executing project engineering assignments, managing operational readiness, ensuring compliance to statutory requirements whilst ensuring efficient maintenance systems and practices for the upkeep of site infrastructure.

Location and reporting structure

This position will be based at the Otjikoto Mine and will report directly to the Technical Advisor & Mining Projects Manager.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete technical studies and prepares cost estimates for out-of-scope underground development contractor items, e.g. dewatering boreholes, site final water reticulation, electrical supply, primary ventilation fans, escape way installation and emergency preparedness
  • Review electrical and mechanical standards submitted by contractors and provide recommendations to align with Namibian legislative standards
  • Review Bill of Material (BOM) according to underground development contractor proposals and ensure recommendations are locally supported, meeting the minimum Namibian standards
  • Review installation protocols and ensure compliance to Namibian standards
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications.
  • Conduct quality assurance by inspecting and testing development installations, equipping and support according to standards
  • Compiles Tool and Equipment inspection sheets for accepting the contractor's equipment to work on site
  • Project manage site establishment requirements for the successful underground development and production contractor/s, including any out-of-scope projects
  • Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing status and sharing recommendations
  • Ensure document control process is established and compile a depositary for all drawings, designs, technical information, test certificates, OEM manuals for the underground development project.
  • Sign off on technical commissioning of sub-components for the underground development project.
  • Manage operational project requirements and standards
  • Ensure effective budgeting and cost control
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Namibian legislation and standards
  • Ensure compliance to all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or National N6 Diploma with GCC (NQF 8)
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience in a mining environment of which at least 1 year should have been in a supervisory capacity
  • Valid Code BE drivers license
  • Working knowledge of Pumpsim will be an advantage
  • Experience in project management and execution will be an advantage
  • Experience with construction will be an advantage
